City of Ranger Fundraiser

Holy Smoke was very pleased to be invited by the Ranger, Georgia city council to provide barbecue as the main course for the fundraiser meal which took place on Friday, January 3, for the Ranger Community Center.  This event was of no immediate remunerative value for us (i.e. we were not paid) but the city paid for the raw meat, and it gave us an opportunity to get our name – and more importantly our barbecue – out to a wider audience.  Bluegrass music was the main event, and plenty of bluegrass they did indeed have: there were more bass fiddles per capita than the London Symphony Orchestra vs The Boston Pops at a Jaws festival. And what could go better with Bluegrass than great barbecue? We weren't told up front that there were council members who were skeptical about having barbecue for the fundraiser meal – you all know how disappointing barbecue is when it's only so-so – but the City Clerk told us afterward that we had won over Skeptics and all agreed that the barbecue was great, and exactly the right thing to have had. What wasn't used for plates was bagged up and sold afterward by the pound, and not a pound was left over. In fact, there was still another 12lbs wanted after the meat ran out! It was a great time, great experience, and ...great barbecue.

Folks, we have great BBQ, and we have Spicy Fudge; what we need is additional funding. If anyone (especially any brother or sister in Christ) is able and willing to help us bring our vision to pass we would be mighty grateful.
